Overview and preliminary results of the Scalability Investigation of hybrid Electric concepts for Next-generation Aircraft (SIENA) project

Abstract This paper presents an overview and preliminary system architecture evaluation results of the project SIENA developed under European Union Clean Sky 2 Program Thematic Topics. The ambition is to accelerate development novel aircraft propulsion technologies by identification that are scalable across different categories. One main tasks within this process aircraft-level various technology options. For this, a conceptual design software at Politecnico di Milano, on-board systems analysis method Collins Aerospace Applied Research Technology combined. Utilizing these joint capabilities, performance studies for two categories, regional turboprop (ATR 72) short/medium-range turbofan (A320neo). compare concepts, which kerosene replaced with hydrogen as energy source on board, against traditional reference systems. In context, future scenarios considered reflecting conservative optimistic assumptions, respectively.
